After seven years of waiting and hard work, Cardi B has finally gifted us her new album Am I The Drama? and the promotional campaign made the anticipation even more exciting.
With Am I The Drama? Cardi B shows she is the drama, but in her own diva way
Am I The Drama? released on September 19, is already certified platinum. Cardi is back to remind us that without her, rap would be a lot less fun. She is an icon not just for her fame, but for being a character that truly reflects her real personality: she became popular thanks to her blunt nature and sharp humor that, sometime, make her music be the less surprising about her.
The album marks a new era in her career and confirms her role as an absolute main character. The album consists of 23 tracks that blend the rawest side of rap with R&B and pop influences, shifting from hard-hitting beats to moments of introspection. Without a doubt, Cardi is the Drama: her sharp, ironic words remain true to her iconic persona. Moreover, the album also stands out for its all-female collaborations.
There are aggressive tracks like Outside where Cardi reasserts her power, more playful ones like Imaginary Playerz and even intimate ballads like Safe with Kehlani, which show her most vulnerable side (surprising but true!). Cardi played a lot with her public image between accusations, criticism and glory, turning “the drama” into a platinum-certified success characterized by confession, provocation and celebration of her career.
Also, she made a track against BIA called Pretty & Petty, where she says: “Look, meatball, you Italian, I’m Cardi B". But that’s just how disses work, it was purely aimed at BIA. In reality, Cardi has often shown love and appreciation for Italy and our culture, even celebrating Måneskin’s success. However, if we had to clap back in the same playful spirit, we’d say:
“We’re Italian, spaghetti, pizza, tiramisù, centuries of culture, bringing flavor in everything we do!".
We mentioned the promotional campaign because she teamed up with the MTA (American's Metropolitan Transportation Authority) to promote her album across the New York City subway system in her own remarkeble style.
Her rapid rise has been shaped by a powerful personality and an authentic soul: blunt, sincere and always true to herself, with or without cameras. Cardi B is truly a character who, if she didn’t exist, would have been hard to invent.
