Mia Van De Loo: Discover the Nashville-Based Artist Behind "quicksand"

Nashville-based singer songwriter Mia Van De Loo has recently released quicksand, a new single that offers a deeper insight into her artistry.

As the press release explains, quicksand captures that feeling of being stuck when you have big ambitions but feel like you're going nowhere, despite all your efforts. The harder you try to escape, the deeper you feel yourself sinking. Then comes the moment when you realise that perhaps no one is coming to save you, that no one will throw you a ladder to help you climb back up. You'll have to rely on your own strength, find the courage to get back on your feet, and remind yourself:

So I will get stronger; I’ll do what it takes I’ll toil and I’ll struggle ‘Til every last bone in my body will break But it will be worth it the day I can fly So worse for the wear, but there’s no one  Who’ll know when I’m up in the sky

Since quicksand feels so personal to Mia and reflects her own struggles and ambitions, we decided to approach the rest of this article as though we were speaking directly to her, sharing our thoughts on her music while reflecting on the emotions and message behind her work.

Mia, your voice feels like the first ray of sunshine after a gloomy winter. It slowly warms your heart, and creates a feeling that isn't loud, isn't excessively explosive, and it isn't overwhelming. It's delicate yet direct, reaching straight into your most vulnerable places and, note after note, trying to heal you. Perhaps it might sound a little too sentimental, but we live in a music industry where the goal is often to create yet another trend, built around two chords repeated until they become that catchy tune you just can't get out of your head. A winning formula, yes, but sometimes one that lacks substance.

In your songs, however, including quicksand, we find a tender, sensitive heart that speaks not of love, but of strength, resilience, courage and pain. Because no goal comes without a little suffering. You remind listeners that sometimes, everything is in their hands: choosing whether to get back up or give up, allowing them time to catch their breath, and then finding the strength to aim high again, doing the best they can with what they have. Until they finally manage to see "the emerald city in their mind, when they can break these shackles off." Perhaps this very sensitivity is what makes you an artist to keep an eye on.

Mia Van De Loo's musical journey began long before she started sharing her music with the world, but over the past few years, she has built a solid following on YouTube, where she uploaded covers and demos. Her "official" discography, however, officially started in 2023 with open book, a five-track EP produced by Laiko, and continued throughout 2024 and 2025 with a tour that took her to several American cities. In 2026 came upstream, someday, and finally quicksand. Each track marks another step in a journey in which she continues to tell her story through music, without needing to raise her voice to be heard. Because sometimes, the most delicate voices are the ones that leave the deepest mark. We can't wait to discover what she has in store next.
