GIRLiDIOT Mag: an initiative that unites people through writing, art and music

Recently, we connected with GIRLiDIOT Mag, a women and LGBTQIA+ focused zine based in Atlanta (USA) that celebrates all forms of creative expression. Their work primarily features writing and art, but they also curate playlists and highlight music, giving a platform to voices that might otherwise go unheard. We wanted to spotlight their work and share the community they’ve built from creative storytelling to artistic projects across media.

About GIRLiDIOT Mag

GIRLiDIOT Mag was founded in March 2025. It was created with the fundamental purpose of giving artists and creatives a safe and unique space where they can express themselves freely and share their stories and voices. Born from the experience of a group of friends who faced repeated rejections, the magazine grew out of empathy for all those creatives whose work is often overlooked or left unheard.

GIRLiDIOT Mag focuses on women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, POC, disabled people and undervalued businesses. It aims to be an open and innovative environment where artists, storytellers and small businesses can showcase their work and spread the word about their projects, emotions and ideas. The team makes a strong effort to include as many contributors as possible!

The magazine is also a growing community that celebrates art in all its forms, from writing and visual art to music, playlists and creative projects of every kind. It continues to expand and evolve, guided by the desire to support underrepresented voices and to create a space where creativity feels welcomed, valued and shared. The team remains committed to promoting artistry from every background and making sure that stories which deserve to be heard are never left behind.

The project was founded by Indica Elizabeth and Filamena Johnson, who wanted to create a space for people like themselves and ensure that inclusion was not only part of the magazine’s mission, but also reflected within the team itself. Alongside them, the team has continued to grow and now includes people with different backgrounds, identities and perspectives, each bringing their own personal touch to the project. The community they work to uplift is the same community they come from, and as the magazine grows, so does the team. Together, they contribute to making diversity and self-expression a true strength.
