The Life of a Showgirl is Taylor Swift’s new album, and lately it has taken over every social platform, becoming a viral trend. What can we say, another success for the globel showgirl Taylor.
But… is it all deserved?
You know that trend that asks, “Are they famous because they have a big fandom or because they’re talented?”. Well, that’s the same question we could ask to understand why every time she releases an album, it becomes a massive success. Objectively speaking, from a musical standpoint, in The Life of a Showgirl Taylor hasn’t exactly created masterpieces: there are good, catchy songs but it’s often similar beats with different words, and the pop sound stays almost the same, with just a few new instruments here and there.
What has always set her apart are those songs that Gen Z and Millennials grew up with, unique and authentic tracks like Love Story, Blank Space, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and Wildest Dreams. Now, the new tracks sound like the same old recipe reheated a thousand times.
Back to the point, I think the answer lies entirely in her fanbase It’s not that she isn’t beautiful, on the contrary, I love that she still looks like an eternal teenager and she definitely has the voice. But she doesn’t have that je ne sais quoi that really makes her stand out from any other pop singer.
And yet, it always works. Maybe because Taylor isn’t just a singer, but a showgirl in the truest sense of the word: she lives for the spotlight, she knows how to move, how to communicate, how to grab attention. And in a world where image matters as much as music, maybe that’s exactly where the secret of her success lies.
