About Niamh Maclennan and her upcoming song Escape
Niamh, originally from the stunning Applecross peninsula and now based in Glasgow, has always had a way of making music that’s both deeply personal and universally relatable. Her sound blends modern influences with touches of Scottish tradition, creating something fresh yet familiar. Known for her emotional performances, Niamh’s music invites you into her world, where vulnerability and strength go hand in hand.
For Escape Niamh worked with an incredible group of musicians: Stephen Buggy on drums, Tabitha Beavitt on fiddle and Yeoman on bass guitar. Niamh herself adds a layer of lush cello to the mix, which gives the song a rich depth that pulls you in. Yeoman’s production brings a nostalgic feel, giving the track a timeless quality while still sounding completely fresh.
Escape is a powerful follow-up to The Dreamer, it's emotional and beautifully layered. The way Niamh weaves her vocals together creates a haunting, immersive experience that you can’t help but feel deeply.
True to her roots, Niamh brings elements of Scottish traditional music into Escape, especially through Beavitt’s emotive fiddle playing. This nod to Niamh’s studies at the National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music is a perfect blend of old and new, adding another layer of depth to the song.
If you didn’t already know, Niamh is also part of Queenz Sounds, a charity dedicated to creating safe spaces for artists, fostering growth, and promoting equality in the music industry. Niamh is one of the artists supported by the charity, a community where collaboration and respect thrive.
Escape will be available on April 11th, meanwhile you can listen to Niamh's previous single The Dreamer hereunder:
