"Sincerely," is Kali Uchis' new album

Sincerely, by Kali Uchis is now available on all digital platforms.

From the alternative R&B beginnings of Por Vida to the triumphs of Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) and Orquídeas, Kali Uchis has always inhabited territories suspended between sensuality and melancholy, between English and Spanish, between vintage sounds and contemporary atmospheres.

Sincerely, by Kali Uchis: an album that marks a new beginning

An artist with a very clear aesthetic vision, over the years Kali has managed to build a recognizable sonic universe that blends soul, pop, reggaetón, bolero, and psychedelia influences. If Isolation (2018) marked her official debut in the English-speaking world and Sin Miedo consecrated her as a new international Latin voice, Sincerely arrives as both a break and a gathering.

Released on May 9, 2025, Sincerely is Kali Uchis's fifth studio album and her first entirely in English in several years. But it's not just a linguistic matter: this work marks a clear shift from the sunny and seductive vibes of the previous Orquídeas. Here, Kali sheds virtuosity, collaborations, and playlist hits, choosing instead the silence between notes, delicacy, and confession.

The title is eloquent, and Sincerely is a collection of letters, a musical diary in which the artist recounts some of the most intense and vulnerable moments of her recent life, where the birth of her first child and the loss of her mother are the two emotional poles around which the 14 tracks of the album revolve: extreme experiences, opposite yet linked by a common thread, that of transformation.

From the opening track, Heaven Is a Home…, one is immersed in a muffled, almost otherworldly atmosphere, where the productions are reduced to the essential, with sounds reminiscent of 1970s soul, gospel choirs, and R&B notes that envelop without ever invading. It's an album that takes its time, not chasing trends but inviting slow, contemplative listening.

Among the tracks that stand out from the first listen is Sugar! Honey! Love!, a sweet declaration of affection built on an enveloping melody, with a velvety arrangement and a slow yet engaging rhythm; it's one of the few moments on the album where a slight opening towards the outside is perceived. The chorus has something hypnotic, and Kali's voice becomes tender, almost maternal.

Daggers! instead introduces an underlying tension that breaks the apparent calm of the album. The lyrics revolve around a relationship full of ambiguity and frustration, and it's one of the most incisive tracks also from a writing standpoint: the image of daggers, more emotional than physical, evokes a vulnerability that doesn't seek protection but understanding.

Lose My Cool is one of the longest and best-constructed tracks on the album. Here, Kali abandons herself to a confession about how difficult it is to maintain emotional balance in an intense relationship. The production is minimal, almost rarefied, and leaves all the space to the voice, which moves between melody and speech, between singing and sighs. It's one of the most meditative moments of the album, to be listened to with headphones, in solitude.

Then there's Territorial, which plays with the ambivalence between desire and control and reflects on the need to assert personal space even within intimacy. The singer's voice is whispered, almost restrained, and the base remains in the background, almost to underline how the meaning of the piece lies entirely in the words and interpretation.

Other tracks, like All I Can Say and ILYSMIH, speak of love in a raw and visceral way, abandoning all idealization. They are not songs built to impress at first listen, but they have a delicacy that reveals itself only over time, like the most sincere things.

Sunshine & Rain… is perhaps the most touching track on the album, not so much for the melody but for the presence of the sampled voice of Kali's mother, which adds immediate emotional weight. It's a powerful and silent way to process grief and to bring the presence of the mother into the album, making her an active part of the narrative.

The entire project is devoid of collaborations, and this choice helps to reinforce the idea of a deeply personal work, in which Uchis builds an introverted yet cohesive musical world, which relies above all on her voice: warm, soft, at times whispered, always at the center.

Dynamically, the album might seem less varied compared to the previous ones, because some tracks tend to resemble each other, and those who love the more rhythmic or provocative Kali might perceive this project as monotonous. But it would be a mistake to measure Sincerely with the same yardstick as Orquídeas or Sin Miedo: here the point is not to amaze but to tell, and Kali does it sincerely, with a voice that welcomes and heals, without ever raising the tone.

Sincerely is an album that takes care of the listener almost as much as the artist herself, a work that has the courage to slow down, to dig deep, and to show itself as fragile. It's not an album for everyone, but it's an album that has a lot to say to those willing to truly listen.
